Ft. Hood Information

Some predicted trouble from Fort Hood's Maj. Hasan

Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda

Lieberman Suggests Army Shooter Was 'Home-Grown Terrorist'

A senior U.S. senator on Sunday said the shootings at Fort Hood could have been a terrorist attack, and that he would launch a congressional investigation into whether the U.S. military could have prevented it. More

Jobless rate surges to 10.2 percent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. jobless rate unexpectedly jumped to a 26-1/2-year high of 10.2 percent last month, adding to pressure on the Obama administration to do more to tackle unemployment even as signs of recovery mount.

Unexpectedly? Economists have been saying for months that we had not hit bottom yet. Why is the media not speaking to them? Why speak to the government for information on these issues, they apparently don't know. Instead of focusing on Health Care Reform, which will not add jobs, how about focusing on lowering taxes which will increase jobs; it's simple really, when people have more of the money that THEY have earned they will purchase more products, which in turn will bump up demand, which in turn will demand more production, which in turn will make business owner's hire more employees to make those products...yes, actually it is that simple, history shows us that. Instead we have men and women who absolutely know NOTHING about owning a business making decisions and increasing our taxes, BRILLIANT!

Be Careful

Think, the most important skill we can develop. Marketers are out to sell you things that you neither need nor want...in the long run, but it can only happen if you let it. Question everything.

I am currently reading "Packaging Girlhood" and my eyes have been opened to some things that I had not been able to explain before, in other words I questioned these things but never could put it into words, I don't know if that makes sense. Girls have been taught by TV, DVDs, Movies, Magazines, Media, etc. to be sexual and sensual or a tomboy, instead of encouraging individuality. I believe this has been an unintended consequence of feminizing our culture. Women and Men no longer see the importance of mothers raising their children and instead allow a stranger, who doesn't care about them (like a mother) raise them, with their values, not the Father's or Mother's. I say feminizing because that movement has told women that they need to be home with their children but "They can have it all," not so, our children have suffered.

What a Good Joke?

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize. No, really. Update: “It’s not April 1, is it?”

My carpooling friend and I were discussing this this morning and were wondering, "What?" Truly a joke, right? Since when is this prize given to encourage someone to do something? I guess when you think about the fact that this award was given to Arafat...well, I think you get the point.

Mad Men?

Why would Sesame Street market Mad Men? First, kids would not get this, only adults would (those who watch the show). Second, is this not a show for kids? These shows are trying to cross boundaries from children and Adults, there are some subjects that kids are just not ready for, but we see this happening more and more, i.e. Shrek...Parents, pay attention. Watch shows with your children and talk about what they are watching and help them to think about these things, so they don't buy things that YOU, as parents, don't want them to buy!

Twitter

Twitter; not just for twits, marketers can use this to promote their brand.

One of the fundamental needs we humans have, is to connect with fellow humans beings. We want to be accepted and validated; we use different avenues to accomplish that, join clubs, take up hobbies, join cliques, etc. and many of us use facebook, myspace and the likes; these same people are, or can be potential customers and they have the need to feel that they're more than just a number or dollar sign. I know many people that will not give up they're hairdresser, cleaners, a local restaurant because they feel connected and in comes social media. A way to personally connect; then Twitter comes in and fan pages that can have a personal connection with members; not by advertising products or services, per se, but instead communicating with them. There's something about knowing that the president of a company is willing to take the time to talk to you via this media. Twitter allows you to follow specific topics which will help you reach your customers and potential ones; this is a great research tool as well. Also, those who are following you will benefit from you tweets of expertise.

Really?

Incredible, but here is the truth about that "Old-Wives tale".

They're hitting it hard to get support for this take over of health care. Look at how well Medicare and Medi-Cal work and then speak to this who actually work for hospitals and find out how well those programs are run.

Health Insurance Reform Research

I am currently conducting research on the proposed Healthcare Bill and I found the following information:

“The problem with the “public plan ensures competition” argument, in my view, is that it applies a national solution to regional problems” (Katz, 2009).

So, there are problems with the current system but what will help?

What this suggests is the most effective way for a public plan to lower medical costs is to impose MediCare-type pricing on doctors and hospitals. This, however, would violate the pledge of lawmakers to maintain a level-playing field between the public plan and private carriers” (Katz, 2009).

Why this matters is that MediCare pays less than the actual cost of many medical services. Hospitals and doctors shift this shortfall to commercial carriers. If the government-run health plan did the same the cost shift would be brutal, driving many of those carriers out of the market — not because they couldn’t compete on a level playing field, but because the playing field was not level” (Katz, 2009).

Is the goal maintaining a level-playing field?

“The debate over a public insurance plan would be more straightforward if it focused on the real issue: should the government offer coverage at lower prices resulting from imposing reimbursement fee schedules on doctors and hospitals. That’s unlikely to happen, however. When it comes to health care reform the public trusts doctors and hospitals and they don’t trust insurance companies. Consequently, ignoring the fact that a lack of competition among carriers is a local, not a national, problem is good politics. But it makes for an awkward public policy debate” (Katz, 2009).

“A new government insurance program for the uninsured just makes things worse. In addition, this program will undoubtedly cost far more than initial estimates, as has occurred with Medicare and Medicaid” (Miron, 2009).

“Society must accept that we cannot give everyone the best care all the time; the attempt to do so will bankrupt the economy. As in other areas, societies must make tradeoffs about health, and that happens well only when governments subsidize less” (Miron, 2009).

I report you decide…

Why Marketing?

I love working with people and figuring out what makes them tick; what motivates them; what makes them do what they do...I guess that last one encompasses the previous loves. I like conducting research, coming up with solutions, and watching people succeed! I am completely new at this, being that I just received my BA in Business/Marketing diploma in the mail a couple of days ago, I am now official!

This is a difficult time, due the economic climate, to be in marketing, but being challenged is not a bad thing, right? What doesn't kill you will make you stronger...I think that's the saying, but anyway you get my drift. I am constantly thinking about what I can do to bring something valuable to the table and see businesses succeed; I hope that I can do that for my clients.
